Court Orders Removal of Trump’s Name From Kennedy Center
A U.S. District Court has ruled that the Kennedy Center’s name must revert to the John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts. Judge Christopher Cooper said only Congress can authorize a renaming and also blocked the planned temporary closure for renovations. The order requires all “Donald J. Trump” signage, digital displays and official materials to be removed within 14 days. This decision reverses changes made after Trump became board chair in 2025, including the venue’s renamed façade. A spokesperson for the centre says they will appeal and still intend to carry out urgent repairs funded by Congress. Board member Joyce Beatty, who brought the legal challenge, said the ruling protects the centre as a public memorial and upholds the rule of law.
