Edo State Seals Mega Hub After Eedris Abdulkareem’s Critique of Tinubu

Edo State officials sealed the Mega Hub event centre on April 7, four days after rapper Eedris Abdulkareem used the venue to criticize President Bola Tinubu’s administration during a ‘Mega Rave’ concert. At the April 3 show, the rapper paused mid-performance to mock the president’s response to a recent attack in Plateau State and lament economic hardships under the current government. A video of his remarks quickly circulated online. State authorities say the closure followed security intelligence, denying any link to the artist’s comments. Commissioner for Information Kassim Afegbua later confirmed the facility has since been reopened. Governor Monday Okpebholo, a member of the ruling party, has vowed to deliver Edo State for President Tinubu in 2027, even offering to resign if he fails to secure victory here.

What do you think prompted the Edo State government to seal that event centre so quickly after Eedris Abdulkareem's criticism?

Makes sense the government moved fast after Eedris called them out; likely trying to nip further criticism in the bud.

Not so sure it's tied to Abdulkareem's song. Could be permit issues or security checks instead of political payback.

It's hard to ignore that the venue was sealed just four days after Eedris Abdulkareem's criticism. Seems more than a simple safety concern.

We might be jumping to political conclusions. The authorities often enforce regulations when venues ignore safety and licensing rules, regardless of any critique.

Organisers should ensure all venue approvals and safety certificates are up to date before hosting politically charged events to avoid sudden shutdowns.
