Tayo Faniran Alleges Nepotism and Bias Shape Nollywood Awards and Opportunities
Actor Tayo Faniran has alleged that personal connections, favouritism and nepotism influence awards and career opportunities in Nollywood more than merit. Speaking in a TV interview, Faniran said some industry figures had formed negative impressions of him since his Big Brother Africa days. He claimed that producers, directors and actors do not always rise through talent alone, and alleged that some people work to limit others’ progress. Faniran cited his work on films including Man Like Jimmy and the series Bodija, which he said he funded with more than ₦100 million. He called for a fairer, merit-based system that gives filmmakers and new talent equal consideration.
