Prof. Zaccaeus Adangor, SAN, the Rivers State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, has resigned from the State Executive Council after rejecting redeployment to the Ministry of Special Duties (Governor’s Office).

Adangor’s resignation came barely 24 hours after the state Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, redeployed him in a minor cabinet reshuffle on Tuesday.

Fubara, in a letter issued on Tuesday by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Tammy Danagogo, redeployed Adangor alongside the State Commissioner for Finance, Isaac Kamalu, who himself was moved to the Ministry of Employment Generation and Economic Empowerment.

Adangor and Kamalu, as well as seven other commissioners who had previously resigned from Fubara’s cabinet in the heat of the political crisis that rocked the state, are loyalists of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Adangor’s resignation was contained in a letter he personally signed, dated April 24 and addressed to the SSG on Wednesday and obtained by our correspondent.

The letter was titled, “Cabinet Reshufflement: Notice of Rejection of Deployment and Resignation from the Rivers State Executive Council.”

Adangor accused Fubara of willfully interfering with the performance of his duties as Commissioner.

He further said the governor had in the last few weeks directed him not to defend, oppose, or appear in suits instituted against his office and the Government of Rivers State by persons admittedly hired and sponsored by the Government of Rivers State.

The six-point letter reads, “My attention has been drawn to your letter dated April 23, 2024, and widely circulated on social media whereby I was “deployed to the ministry of special duties (governor’s office).

“Further to the referenced letter, I hereby give you notice of my rejection of the said deployment and resignation from the Rivers State Executive Council with effect from the 24th day of April 2024.

“I wish to state for the record that I am no longer willing to continue to serve in the administration of His Excellency, Siminalayi Fubara, Governor of Rivers State, in any capacity whatsoever.

“It is important to mention that the Governor of Rivers State had in the past couple of weeks willfully interfered with the performance of my duties as the Honourable Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Rivers State, by directing me not to defend, oppose, or appear in suits instituted against the Honourable Attorney-General and the Government of Rivers State by persons admittedly hired and sponsored by the Government of Rivers State.

“Having served the Government and good people of Rivers State dutifully as a member of the Rivers State Executive Council for the past five years, it has become imperative for me to quit the administration in order to preserve my reputation.

“I wish the administration of His Excellency well.”

Wike Loyalist Rejects Fubara’s Reassignment, Resigns From Cabinet

The Federal Government has ordered that admission to tertiary institutions should not be given to candidates less than 18 years.

The Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman gave the directive on Monday during a monitoring exercise of the ongoing 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME in Bwari, Federal Capital Territory.

He decried the activities of some parent, who were pressuring their underage students to get admissions into tertiary institutions, 

The minister said that the 18-year benchmark is in line with the 6-3-3-4 system of education.

“The minimum age of entry into the University is 18, but we have seen students who are 15, 16 years going in for the entrance examination.

“Parents should be encouraged not to push their wards too much. Mostly, it is the pressure of parents that is causing this. Mostly, it is the pressure of parents that is causing this.

“We are going to look at this development because the candidates are too young to understand what the whole university education is all about.

“This is the period when children migrate from controlled to uncontrolled environments; when they are in charge of their own affairs.

“But, if they are too young, they won’t be able to manage properly. I think that is part of what we are seeing in the Universities today,” he said.

On skill acquisition for those who will not be able to gain admissions into tertiary institutions, Mamman said the ministry is taking skills to pupils from primary school.

“ In overall, it is 20 per cent that can be admitted into the University, Polytechnic and Colleges of Education system.

“So, where will the 80 per cent go to? That is why the issue of skills acquisition is very important.

"Any student who is unable to proceed to tertiary institutions should be able to have a meaningful life after primary and secondary school’s education and the only solution to this is skill acquisition,” he said.

Corroborating the minister’s position on the benchmark of 18 years for admission to tertiary institutions, the JAMB spokesperson, Dr Fabian Benjamin said 18 years is in line with the 6-3-3-4 education system.

The Minister of State for Education, Dr Yusuf Sununu who was in the monitoring team applauded the conduct of the 2024 UTME, particularly, the introduction of online examinations as a way of checking malpractices.

He said the Computer Based Test (CBT) had reduced examination malpractices to the barest minimum.

Sununu commended the Board for setting a simple but high standard for the examination.

And it is for this reason: You do not need to see a man, nor do you need to see the movements of a man. You need to see Christ. And we need the power and the movement of the Holy Spirit. When we cannot see much of a man, that does not limit us. But without a vision of Jesus Christ, we are ruined. I’m not here tonight to talk about men, or to talk about church, or religion. For all those things have their failures and flaws. Every one of you can stand up and make accusations against these things. Men are weak and sinful. Religion is sometimes weak and failing. But Christ: there is no one like Christ. He’s the King of kings and the Lord of lords. He’s the Son of God. He is infinite perfection. He is strong. He is mighty. He has never failed, and He has fulfilled every promise He has ever made. You have no argument against Him. For there is no one like Him. He and He alone is the Savior of the world and the Christ of God.

This evening you need Christ. You need a vision of Christ. If you’re here this evening and you consider yourself to be atheist, I know this: One small glimpse of Christ, and your atheism will be destroyed by His power. And if you are a believer here tonight, and you are struggling with sin, and you lack zeal and motivation, one glimpse of Jesus Christ will give you all that you need to live the Christian life. So it’s all about Christ. What do you think of Him? For that is the very basis of God’s judgment of men. While it is true that one day you will stand before God and be judged with regard to your sin, you must understand that the greatest question on that day will be this: What think ye of Jesus Christ? What have you done with Christ?

Now let’s open up our Bibles to the book of Colossians 1:16-22. “For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. He is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything. For it was the Father’s good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him, and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven. And although you were formerly alienated and hostile in mind, engaged in evil deeds, yet He has now reconciled you in His fleshly body through death, in order to present you before Him holy and blameless and beyond reproach.” Let’s pray.

Father, I come before You this evening with a great and a heavy burden. Lord, I know that I am taking upon myself a task that I cannot complete. It would be easier for me to count the stars in the heavens or to number these grains of sand on the seashore. But to describe the greatness and the glory and the power of Your Son goes beyond all human invention. No words can express Him. No intellect can grasp Him, whether they be human or angelic. That You have exalted the name of Your Son above all things, so that at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that He is Lord. And it will be for Your good pleasure and Your glory.

Father, we are filled with religion. We are filled with knowledge, and we are filled with apathy and the lack of the fear of the Lord. But Father, one glimpse of Christ, one glimpse of His power and His glory, one glimpse of Your love and His face, will make our sleeping go away and fill us with joy unspeakable. Lord, we need Christ. We don’t need a man. We don’t need a preacher. We need Him. Lord I pray, let me stutter, let me speak as a mule, let me fall from this platform; but O God, that men might catch a glimpse of Jesus Christ. His power. His glory. That they might be humbled by that, and saved by that heavenly vision. O God, rend the heavens and come down. Speak to men. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Now look in verse 16. “For by Him all things were created.” It doesn’t matter who you are tonight. You may claim to be atheist and agnostic. You may be a hater of all religion and even a hater of God. The very mention of Christ may set your blood to boiling. You may consider yourself an enemy of the cross. But know this: Jesus Christ created you. And in that, He has a claim upon you. He is your Maker; and by virtue of that, He is also your Possessor, your Owner. And not only does He take ownership, but He is also Lord. You say, “I do not see that. Where is His throne?” Know this, that God has appointed a day in which He will judge every man, through this One who was crucified by wicked men—Jesus Christ. His throne is coming. His judgment is near. And on that day when He judges, everyone will recognize His right to judge because He is judging the very thing He has made.

Do you also realize the absolute arrogance of seeking to live independently from Him? The Bible says He made you. And not only that, but He sustains you. It is the great truth of Christianity that God created the world. But He did not leave it to itself. He sustains the world. In the same way know this: God created you and He sustains you. The next breath you take comes from Christ. Your heart beats in the next few minutes only because of Jesus Christ. Can you see how insane it is to seek to live independently from Him? Imagine a man laying in a hospital. And he’s unconscious, and he is connected to a life support system – several tubes that keep him alive. And every once in a while, the man wakes up, and like a wild animal, he grabs at the tubes and he tries to pull them out of his arm. He tries to destroy the life support system. He must be laid down in the bed once more and tied down because in his fit of insane rage he is going to kill himself. That is the perfect description of man without Christ. Like a wild animal, like an insane man, you seek to live separately from the very One who is the source of life.

But the Bible says, “By Him all things were created.” But not only that, this prepositional phrase “by Him” can also be interpreted “in Him”. That all things were created in Christ. Now what does that mean? Reality is found in Christ alone. Everything outside of the person of Jesus Christ is false. It is wrong. It is without meaning. It has no reason. It is absurd and insane. So is the life lived outside of Christ. It has no meaning. It lives in an unreal world, a delusion. Look around at your world. Look what you see. Everything is a vain delusion. From business to advertising to the media, it is all a delusion. It will all pass away. Yesterday I was born, today I stand here, tomorrow I die. And the same can be said of you. And to chase after any thing except that which is eternal is absolutely insane. To give yourself for those things that will pass away is an absurdity. To live for anyone other than Christ is to set yourself outside of the will and good pleasure of God.

There’s something that you must understand about God the Father. His Son is everything to Him. Every thing the Father has ever done, He has done it for His Son. He created the world in His Son. He reveals Himself to the world through His Son. He redeems the world through His Son. And He judges the world through His Son. And He has done it all for the glory of His Son. God has a correct view of things. For you to consider unimportant what God considers most important, is absolutely insane. I said something the other night, and I will repeat it now. I can tell you who your God is by just asking you one question: What do you think about most? What fills your thoughts the most? Do you see how insane we are? We look in the mirror at our own image more than we look to Christ. We worry about things in this world more than we concern ourselves with Christ. And yet, I can assure you, Christ is foremost in every thought of God. And Christ is foremost in the thoughts of every being that finds its dwelling place in Heaven.

This is proved in the next phrase. It says, “For by Him all things were created, both in Heaven and on earth.” The world is important to God. Men are important to God. But be careful that your heart not be lifted up in arrogance because the world of men is not the only thing that God possesses. It is not even the greatest of His possessions. For all of Heaven belongs to God. And we know from Scripture that there are countless splendid created beings who exist in Heaven for only one purpose: the worship of God. Dr. Tozer, many years ago, said something very important, and we will do well to listen. “If all men on the earth were to suddenly become blind, it would not diminish the glory of the sun, or the moon, or the stars.” In the same way, if all men were to be atheist, it would not diminish the glory of God. If He lost the entire world, if every man turned away, if there was no redemptive plan in the heart of God, He would still be worshiped throughout eternity by an infinite number of created beings more splendid than ourselves.

“By Christ all things were created, both in the heavens and on the earth, visible and invisible.” In these two words we find one of our greatest problems. We trust our eyes, we trust our senses, more than we trust the Word of God. You live based on what you can see. You live based on what you can feel. And, most importantly, you live based upon what other men tell you. And you do not realize that the invisible world is more a reality than the one you can see. This is not the reality. The reality is that which is set before us in the Word of God. It is what Christ has said, because one day, all of this will pass away like a vapor, like a piece of cloth that will be rolled up and taken away. Like dry wood, it will be burned up. And on that day, you will know what is truly real, and the Word of God will be vindicated. And some of you will rejoice in that. But others of you will realize that you’ve lived for a wrong thing, and you have lost all things.

Peter Obi Is Currently Embarking On Donation Campaign In The North

The proprietor of the Uyo Cybercrime Training Centre, also known as Hustle Kingdom, Ikemesit Edet, has been sentenced to ten years in jail for fraud.

The Uyo Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Wednesday, arraigned Edet for impersonation, love scam, hacking/editing of social media accounts, and private criminal tutoring.

According to the EFCC in a statement on its X handle, Edet was jailed on Wednesday with an option of a N2,000,000 fine for each count after pleading guilty.

The charges against the suspect read, “That you IKEMESIT EDET IK sometime in January 2024 in Nigeria within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court, being the occupier and a person concerned with the management of the premises situated and lying at No. 57 D-Line, Ewet Housing Estate, Uyo Akwa Ibom State, did knowingly permit the use of the entire aforesaid premises as a CYBERCRIME ACADEMY, also known as Hustle Kingdom (HK) where you recruited ten (10) young Nigerians between ages 16-25 and taught them cybercrime techniques for perpetrating cyber crimes to wit: hacking, impersonation, and obtaining money by false pretence (Advance Fee Fraud) and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 3 of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act 2006 and punishable under Section 3 of the same Act.

“That you IKEMESIT EDET IK between May 2020 and December 2023 in Nigeria within the jurisdiction of this Honourable court did take possession total sum of Fifteen Million Naira Only (N15,000,000.00) which you knew forms proceed of an unlawful act to wit: Cybercrime and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 18(2)(d) of the Money laundering (Prohibition) Act 2022 and punishable under Section 18(3) of the same Act.

The prosecution counsel, Joshua Abolarin, prayed the court to convict and sentence Edet accordingly after pleading guilty to the charges against him.

Abolarin also prayed that the court ordered the forfeiture of all exhibits recovered from him at the point of arrest.

Meanwhile, the defence counsel, Francis Ezike, begged the court to be lenient in sentencing the defendant.

In his judgement, Justice Ojukwu convicted Edet and sentenced him to a five-year jail term on each count, with an option of a fine of N2,000,000 (Two Million Naira) on each count.

Ojukwu also ordered that all recovered exhibits from the convict which include 13 laptops, a gold-coloured Toyota Corolla, a Lexus Jeep RX 300, and about 3,080.25 square metres of land located at Ibiaku Obio Ndobo Village, Uruan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State be forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria exhibits.

It added that the Pernis refinery has an installed capacity of 404,000bpd the biggest in Europe. The BP Rotterdam in the Netherlands has 380,000 capacity.

Bloomberg also said the GOI Energy ISAB refinery in Italy was built with a refining capacity of 360,000bpd.

Also, the TotalEnergies Antwerp refining facility in Belgium can refine 338,000bpd.

Others listed in the report were the Orlen Plock refinery in Poland with 327,000bpd; Shell’s Rheinland in Germany with 327,000bpd; Miro refinery in Germany has 310,000 capacity and the ExxonMobil Anterwep refinery in Belgium with 307,000 capacity.

It added that the Saras Sarroch refinery in Italy had 300,000 capacity; and the ExxonMobil Fawley in England with 270,000bpd capacity.

Describing the Dangote refinery as a ‘game changer’, the Bloomberg report said the refinery was taking advantage of cheaper US oil imports for as much as a third of its feedstock as it started up.

The refinery has been reportedly shipping products in recent weeks while readying two units to enable petrol output that will deliver a long-promised transformation of the fuel market both in Nigeria and the region, according to analysts.

“Dangote is going to influence Atlantic Basin gasoline markets this summer and for the rest of the year,” an oil expert, Alan Gelder, told Bloomberg.

The refinery is running at about 300,000 barrels a day, nearly half its nameplate capacity, according to the average estimate of analysts at WoodMac, FGE, and Citac.

The complex has started shipping jet fuel, diesel, and naphtha as it widens to a full slate of products.

Reuters recently reported that Dangote oil refinery could end a decades-long petrol trade from Europe to Africa, which is worth $17bn a year.

Reuters, quoting analysts and traders, said the Dangote refinery was heaping pressure on European refineries already at risk of closure from heightened competition, adding that the refinery would be the largest in Africa and Europe when it reaches full capacity.

About a third of Europe’s 1.33mbpd average petrol exports in 2023 went to West Africa, a bigger chunk than any other region, with the majority of those exports ending up in Nigeria, Reuters said, quoting Kpler data.

The Dangote refinery, funded by Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote, was configured to produce as much as 53 million litres of petrol a day, about 300,000bpd.

The refinery has begun the sale of diesel into the Nigerian market, crashing the pump price of the product from N1,600 to N940 in less than a month.

The Vice-Chancellor, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Abel Ezeoha, advised the students to take their studies seriously, as the University is reputed as one of the most serious universities in the country, and urged them to shun cultism, truancy, examination malpractices, indecent dressing and other vices that would paint the towering image of the University in bad light.
Prof Elom also encouraged the freshmen to respect the culture and values of the university’s host community to avoid having problems with the indigenes, assuring them of their security while on campus. 
He further noted that the university has a team of well-trained staff and professionals, and facilities to guide them through learning, while encouraging the students to feel free to seek for advice and assistance when confused as the staff are on ground to help them succeed.

Contributing, the Registrar, Barr. Ifeanyi Igwe, rolled out the Codes of Conduct as it affects students, admonishing the freshmen to abstain from criminal activities and social vices like theft, violence, examination malpractice, cultism, intimidation, assault amongst many others. He warned that breaching any of the rules and regulations as contained in the Students’ Handbook would attract appropriate and sanction. 

In the same vein, the University Librarian, Dr. Juliana Akidi educated the newly admitted students on the Use of the Library and its importance in achieving academic excellence, adding that “readers are leaders”. 
She enjoined the students to always make use of the University Library because it is well stocked with soft and hard copies of current texts, and important databases in different fields that are expected of a modern standard university Library with appropriate professionals to attend to them at all times. 

Similarly, the University Bursar, Dr. Kingsley Oyekezie, who was represented by Clementine Uzoije, informed the freshmen that the only way they could be regarded as bonafide students is through the payment of all the approved charges, adding that without it they would not be able to complete their registration, and thus, are not ‘ real students’.
He further took them through the modes of payments and the consequences of not paying the approved charges on their studentship.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Ag. Dean, Students’ Affairs, Dr. Charles Okolie congratulated the new students for securing admission into the University despite the large number of candidates that applied to study in the institution, reminding them that the university is for serious- minded students.
He stated that the university environment offers the students the opportunity to be self-reliant and to take responsibility for what they do, stressing that if they do not measure up to the required standard, they will be shown the way out. 
Dr. okolie further advised the students to have a settled mind and seek for help when needed, strike a balance between social and academic programs, shun cultism and gangsterism and strive for a good grades by setting some goals for themselves and make sure they work hard to achieve them, adding that extracurricular activities were also linked to high student engagement and success.
On the issue of Security Matters and Security Consciousness, the Chief Security officer of the University, Emeka Ogayi who was represented by Mr. Kelechi Nwali, enjoined the students to be security conscious in the face of threat, enumerating a number of counter measures to be used in a situation of danger with the purpose of ensuring safety. He affirmed that the university has put in place measures to prevent and arrest any threatening situation on the campus for their safety, urging them to avoid any behavior that could lead to crisis.
Other speakers at the event were; Prof. Amobi Ekwe (DAP), who spoke on Academic Issues: Probation/withdrawal/rustication/expulsion, Mr. Ohaekelem Godson talked on SERVICOM (Service Delivery), Mr. Mathew Eze spoke on ICT Management, Barr. Ogochukwu Onuora talked on Prevention of Sexual Violence/Harassment , Arch. Ifeanyi Chukwu spoke on Green Initiative/Campus in a Garden, Prof. Friday Nwalo talked on Ikwo and its environs, Nwakpu Kelechi spoke on Health Management: The Youth and Drug Abuse; Prevention and Control, Dr. Williams Osatuyi talked on Anti-Corruption and Campus cultism, Dr. Arua Oko talked on Good Moral Conduct/Proper Dressing and Dr. Eunice Eze dwelt on the Need for Counseling in the university, all advocating towards the wellbeing of the new students on campus.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Wednesday reiterated his
administration’s commitment to improving the lives of girls, women
and young people in the country.
Speaking at the unveiling of the United Nations Fund for Population
Activities’ (UNFPA) State of the World Population 2024 Report
Wednesday, the President stated the need to tackle the challenges
facing vulnerable demographics in the country.
He said his administration was committed to improving the living
standards of girls, women and young people’s lives by fulfilling
promises to speed up actions in Nigeria.
He said the aim is to prevent maternal deaths and ensure girls’
access to quality education and healthcare.
The president, who was represented by the Coordinating Minster of
Health and Social Welfare, Professor Ali Pate, stated the importance
of girls’ education and avoiding early motherhood, quality healthcare
access, and ending gender-based violence and harmful practices like
early/forced marriages and female genital mutilation.
He said with a focus on strengthening the four D Principles –
Development, Democracy, Demography and Diaspora – the
government aims to integrate modern solutions into policies and
programmes that benefit this demographic.
“The Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative, launched in
December 2023, is a testament to the administration’s commitment
to the health and well-being of girls, women, and young people.
“This initiative aims to improve access to quality healthcare services,
including reproductive health and family planning, and address the
unique challenges facing this demographic.
“Meeting the aspirations of the population affected by these inter-
woven threads, who are mostly women, girls and young people,
places a great demand and a sense of duty on us all to keep that
hope alive. We must fulfil the promises to accelerate actions in
Nigeria and ensure no woman dies giving birth.
“We must ensure that girls stay in school instead of becoming
mothers at tender ages, provide access to quality health care and
services everywhere, including accelerated access to family planning as fundamental for managing our population.”
