Ex-Delta ASCSN Chairman Faces Claims of Diverting Union Funds to Wife’s Committee

Ex-Delta ASCSN Chairman Faces Claims of Diverting Union Funds to Wife’s Committee

Allegations have emerged that former Delta State ASCSN chairman Samuel Dietake tried to reroute union dues to a caretaker committee linked to his wife, Preye Dietake. Investigators reviewed internal memos showing a request to suspend monthly check-off deductions payable into the state executive’s account and redirect them to this unofficial body. The caretaker group also issued a “Suspension of Rent Renewal” notice to tenants at the Asaba secretariat, urging them not to renew leases with the recognised leadership. Though the document bore a local customary court stamp, its authenticity is unverified and the directive was later overturned. The ASCSN national executive has declared the caretaker committee illegal and urged members, tenants, and stakeholders to comply only with directives from the duly elected state leadership. Efforts to obtain comments from Samuel Dietake, Preye Dietake, and committee head H. A. Dafieghor were unsuccessful.

The internal memos suggest a strategic move to suspend deductions, which raises doubts about transparency in that caretaker committee setup.

Instead of focusing solely on Dietake's motives, perhaps we need to scrutinize the union's oversight mechanisms that let this request pass.

Members should demand transparent reporting on all deductions and consider forming an independent audit panel for union finances immediately.
