FG Announces December 2028 Deadline for Final Analogue TV Switch-Off
The Federal Government has set December 2028 as the final date to complete Nigeria’s transition from analogue to digital television broadcasting. According to the National Broadcasting Commission, subsequent phases will cover pay TV services, studio development and dedicated production centres. A proof of concept for audience measurement has been run in Lagos, with roll-out now underway in Abuja. The switch-off will free up valuable spectrum—valued at over 50 billion dollars—before it’s allocated to telecoms, financial services and other users. Obsolete analogue equipment may be repurposed or safely disposed to avoid environmental hazards.
