Sylvester Stallone Recounts Abuse and Emotional Neglect in Childhood

Actor Sylvester Stallone has spoken about growing up with violence, abandonment and little parental affection in an interview about his memoir, “The Steps.” He said he left some painful experiences out of the book because he did not want sympathy. Stallone recalled living with his father after his parents divorced and described him as physically abusive. He said one incident left him injured after his father became angry over the type of bread he brought home. He also said neither of his parents was emotionally nurturing. Stallone recalled being sent to a boarding house as a child and said he did not feel genuine love until much later in life, through his wife and children.
