Tinubu Goes Solar at Aso Rock While Millions of Nigerians Remain in the Dark
A new video shows Nigeria’s seat of power, Aso Rock Villa, disconnected from the national grid and now running on solar panels. The Tinubu administration cited annual bills of ₦47 billion to justify the move. In 2025, President Bola Tinubu approved ₦10 billion for the solar installation. The Energy Commission DG said it aligns with efforts to diversify energy sources and cut the cost of governance. He added that the solar system will deliver uninterrupted clean power, create jobs, foster innovation among local engineers and ease pressure on the national grid. The government also secured partnerships worth $5.3 billion for wider grid expansion. Yet millions of Nigerians still endure unreliable electricity while Aso Rock enjoys steady light.
