‘Bye Bye Nigerians’: SA Politician Celebrates Evacuation, Labels Them ‘Horrible’

A South African politician sparked outrage by calling Nigerians “horrible” during a visit to the airport as dozens were evacuated amid rising xenophobic violence. Thabile Sibeko, leader of the Inizwe Nathi Party, told journalists she came specifically to watch Nigerian nationals board an evacuation flight. She accused them of introducing drug abuse to South African youth and declared, “I am here to bid farewell to Nigerians…bye bye Nigerians.” On June 10, the Nigerian government evacuated 268 citizens following weeks of targeted anti-foreigner riots. The first batch of returnees arrived safely in Nigeria the next morning.
