Oshoala Spot-Kick and Payne’s Strike Propel Super Falcons to 2-1 Win Over Senegal

Oshoala Spot-Kick and Payne’s Strike Propel Super Falcons to 2-1 Win Over Senegal

African champions the Super Falcons dominated an international friendly at Remo Stars Sports Complex in Ikenne. Asisat Oshoala opened the scoring in the 32nd minute with a calm penalty conversion. Just before halftime, Everton midfielder Toni Payne doubled Nigeria’s lead with a superb finish set up by right-back Shukurat Oladipo. Captain Rasheedat Ajibade almost made it 3-0 but was denied by the Senegalese goalkeeper. After the break, head coach Justine Madugu rotated his squad and the pace dropped. Oshoala and Folashade Ijamilusi came close, but neither could add to the tally. Senegal pulled one back in the 86th minute through Sokhna Nogaye’s long-range strike. Despite the late pressure, the Super Falcons held firm. Both teams will face off again in a second friendly at the same venue on Monday.

Do you mean her composed penalty kick gave the Falcons fresh confidence early on?

The report calls the Falcons dominating, but a 2-1 scoreline suggests Senegal offered more resistance than dominance implies.

I'm not convinced a friendly match result is a true test of the team's competitive edge.

To build on this momentum, the coaching staff should schedule tougher opponents before the next competitive fixture.
