Oprah Winfrey to Close South Africa Girls’ Academy in 2027, Launch Scholarship Programme
Oprah Winfrey will close the girls’ academy she founded in South Africa after the 2027 academic year, ending two decades of operations. Under the original agreement, the campus will be returned to Gauteng’s education department. Current students will complete their education without disruption, with their tuition and other support covered through graduation. Winfrey plans to replace the academy model with a scholarship programme aimed at supporting more girls in South Africa. She said the initiative will build on the achievements of the school’s graduates, who now work across fields including business, law, medicine, technology and the arts.
