NSIB Explains Why It Cannot Lead Investigation Into Ondo Air Force Aircraft Crash
The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau says it cannot directly investigate the Nigerian Air Force ATR-42 aircraft accident in Igbokoda, Ondo State, because the aircraft is military-owned. The bureau said military aviation accidents fall under the authority of the armed forces under the NSIB Establishment Act. It can only take part if formally invited by the Nigerian Air Force. The aircraft was reportedly flying from Benin to Lagos when the incident occurred. The Air Force has confirmed the accident and says search-and-rescue operations are ongoing with emergency agencies. NSIB said it is ready to provide technical support, including flight-data and cockpit-voice analysis, if requested by the Air Force. It urged the public to rely on official updates about the rescue operation and investigation.
