Awka North Mayor Accused of Deploying Agunechemba to Harass Keke Riders
Residents and tricycle operators in Awka North say the local government chairman, Hon. ThankGod Anago, ordered security agents from the Agunechemba outfit to chase commercial tricycles away from the state-approved Isuaniocha Junction Motor Park. Operators claim they were forced to relocate to an unapproved park linked to the mayor’s associates and that revenue officials demanded a ₦10,000 fee. Inside observers counted over ten Agunechemba operatives blocking the junction and directing riders to the alternative site. The Anambra State Tricycle Drivers Association insists the junction park is centrally located, safe, and formally approved by the state transport ministry. They warn that the new site is inconvenient, will raise fuel costs, and worsen traffic. Mayor Anago rejects any registration fee and disputes the park’s approval, arguing that a motor park cannot sit on a major junction. He labels the ministry’s approval letter “fake” and says passenger safety on main roads is his only concern.
