ASERC Vows Improved Electricity Supply for Onitsha Residents
In an interactive meeting with Onitsha electricity consumers, the Anambra State Electricity Regulatory Commission (ASERC) assured residents that plans are underway to boost power supply across the state. Chairman Prof. Frank Okafor said the commission will strengthen regulations to increase the volume of electricity available and reduce network losses, which currently account for about 40 percent of total supply. Prof. Okafor also highlighted efforts to guarantee revenue for power investors, ensuring long-term returns and better service delivery. He appealed to consumers to be patient as the current national grid supply remains limited. First Power Managing Director Okechukwu Okafor described his company’s main challenges as insufficient supply from the national grid and rising energy theft. He warned that theft and vandalism cripple service delivery and urged citizens to protect transformers and cables. The distribution company plans to phase out estimated billing by introducing prepaid meters statewide. Both ASERC and First Power called on consumers to pay bills promptly and help safeguard equipment, so homes and businesses can enjoy reliable power.
