Foolish Virgins: Present in Every Age or Only at the End Times?

Some interpret the parable of the ten virgins as applying only at the final coming of the Bridegroom, when the ultimate separation occurs. While church-going believers without the Holy Spirit’s power have appeared throughout history, Scripture labels them “foolish” at the time of His return. Matthew 25:1-13 follows the end-time signs of Matthew 24. The midnight cry is a final summons, and the single shutting of the door marks one decisive moment, not repeated in every age. Revelation 3:14-22 portrays the Laodicean church as lukewarm and self-sufficient—just like the foolish virgins who “went to buy” oil. Revelation 19:7-9 then shows the prepared bride entering the marriage banquet, symbolizing the wise virgins with sufficient oil.
