UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital Workers Threaten Indefinite Strike Over PPP Plan

Workers at the Osun State University Teaching Hospital in Osogbo have threatened to begin an indefinite strike on Monday over a proposed Public-Private Partnership arrangement for key hospital services. The unions oppose plans affecting the laboratory, ICU, radiology, kitchen, morgue and security units. They argue that management did not adequately consult workers and should instead equip existing departments with reagents, consumables and other essential resources. Union representatives alleged that management began interviewing staff for a proposed private laboratory despite an earlier agreement to maintain the status quo. They also said a scheduled meeting with the hospital governing board did not hold. The governing board said discussions with the unions would continue next week. It added that the proposed PPP had government approval and remained under discussion.
