US Confirms Troop Withdrawal From Nigeria, Pledges Ongoing Intelligence Support

The United States has ended its joint counterterrorism deployment in Nigeria. Most US military personnel have left after operations in the Lake Chad Basin. Officials say Washington will still share intelligence and maintain other security partnerships at Nigeria’s request. Anderson spoke on these developments during a briefing at the African Chiefs of Defence Conference 2026. He noted that disrupting the ISIS network in the region served global security, and the US remains committed to helping Nigeria address these challenges.
