FG HOPE Cash Transfer Reaches 9.2 Million Households with ₦688bn Disbursed

The Federal Government’s Household Prosperity and Empowerment Cash Transfer (HOPE-CT) programme has disbursed over ₦688 billion to 9.2 million vulnerable households in two years. The scheme aims to cushion the impact of economic reforms on low-income families. Eligible households receive ₦75,000 in three tranches of ₦25,000 each. To date, more than 9.17 million households have gotten the first instalment, 7.2 million the second, and 6.5 million the third. Disbursements run from November 2023 to February 2026. The programme uses the National Social Register, with verification by NIN or BVN. Women make up 58.7 percent of beneficiaries. Key partners include NIMC, NASSCO and other agencies. Backed by an $800 million World Bank facility, the scheme’s target is now rising from 10.4 million to 15 million households.

True oh, hitting nine million households is solid. Maybe streamline registration or boost awareness so more people can jump on board?

Disbursing ₦688bn sounds impressive, but I wonder if these funds are truly reaching the most in need or just padding administrative costs.

This top‐down approach might overlook local priorities; communities should have more say instead of waiting for federal directives.
