How a Mini Solar Grid Brought 24-Hour Power to My Village
Some months ago I traveled to a remote village in Gassol LGA, Taraba State. There are no proper roads and it takes a three-hour bike ride to reach the community. I was amazed to see Chinese workers install solar panels on a small plot of land, and I was told the entire village now enjoys round-the-clock electricity. When I returned home two months later, the same team began installing poles and panels in my own village. They purchased land space, wired every house and shop, and provided each household with a prepaid meter box. We connect the box at home and buy electricity credit at local shops. A ₦2,000 purchase lasts me about two weeks, since I only use power for four hours a day. Heavier users can top up more often, and a ₦10,000 bundle can last an entire month depending on appliances. This prepaid solar grid has transformed daily life in our community.
