In a bid to maintain a conducive academic environment, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has introduced a strict dress code policy at its School of General Studies. The new regulations, prominently displayed on the "George Marion Johnson Building," have been implemented to curb indecent dressing and ensure a clean and respectful campus atmosphere. The large banner posted on the building highlights the dress code guidelines, which are part of a broader campaign titled "Say No to Indecent Dressing and Dirty Environment." The initiative aims to instill discipline and decorum among students, emphasizing the university’s commitment to fostering a serious and respectful learning environment. Key Dress Code Guidelines: 1. No Shorts: Shorts of any kind that are above the knee are prohibited for both male and female students. 2. No Multiple Earrings or Anklets: Students are not allowed to wear multiple earrings, nose rings, or anklets. 3. Hair Regulations: Dreaded and uncombed hair, as well as colored hair, are banned. 4. No Crop-Tops: Crop-tops and t-shirts exposing the midriff are not permitted. 5. Blouse and Shirt Restrictions: Blouses exposing the navel and sleeveless blouses are forbidden for ladies. Similarly, t-shirts exposing muscles (termed as "macho" shirts) are not allowed for men. 6. No Mini-Skirts or Torn Jeans: Both mini-skirts and torn jeans are banned. 7. No Skin-Tight Dresses: The policy also prohibits the wearing of skin-tight dresses. Official Statement: The banner includes a note emphasizing the university’s ethos: "University of Nigeria is a decent learning environment for decent and serious-minded students." It further states that the School of General Studies will enforce zero tolerance for any form of indecency and environmental defacing. Enforcement Measures: To ensure compliance, the university has warned that defaulters will face disciplinary actions.
