Enugu Approves ₦82,000 Minimum Wage for ESUT Staff From September

The Enugu State Government has approved a new minimum wage of ₦82,000 per month for Enugu State University of Science and Technology staff, effective September 1, 2026. The previous minimum wage was ₦32,000. The approval followed concerns raised by the university’s unions, including a one-month strike ultimatum. Other categories of ESUT staff will also receive a flat ₦50,000 salary increase. ESUT Vice-Chancellor Prof. Aloysius-Michaels Okolie said discussions on staff welfare were still ongoing. He added that South-East governors had agreed on a minimum 20 per cent salary increase for workers in state-owned universities, with states free to approve more.
