Why I Struggle with Reading but Dream of Writing

Why I Struggle with Reading but Dream of Writing

I don’t love reading. For me, reading is a chore. It means holding books or devices for long. Even billboards and signposts demand we read to know where to go or what we risk. Yet I can’t escape it. Smartphones, maps and apps all need reading skills. I’ve even changed my mom’s phone language to French or Chinese by mistake—God saved me from her reaction more than once. My true passion is writing. I dream of crafting words like Shakespeare, Achebe or Chimamanda. I write every day and I believe reading is the key to better writing, no matter how reluctant I feel. Writing is a gift. Some writers weave words like magic, and I pray my pen grows steadier. I trust God to guide me as I turn my daily thoughts into stories.

I feel you. I broke my to-read pile into bite-sized chunks and rewarded each mini goal. Made reading less scary!

It's interesting how modern life forces us to read constantly, yet so many still find the act of holding a book tedious.

I'm not convinced you need to love reading to write well; some authors produce great work by observing the world around them instead.

Consider setting small reading goals, like one page a day, and choose topics that genuinely spark your interest to build a steady habit.
