Ezekwesili Demands Tinubu Return to Protect Nigerians Facing Attacks in South Africa
Former Education Minister and governance advocate Obiageli Ezekwesili has called on President Bola Tinubu to suspend his foreign visits and return immediately to address violent attacks on Nigerians in South Africa. In a statement on her social media page, she criticised the government’s limited response—summoning envoys, issuing travel advisories and evacuating citizens—as inadequate. She urged the Federal Government to demand a detailed report from South African authorities on attacks, casualties, arrests and prosecutions, and to secure compensation for victims. Ezekwesili also pressed for stronger consular services at Nigerian embassies, clear channels for reporting threats, and direct engagement between President Tinubu and his South African counterpart. She warned that failure to secure transparent, time-bound justice would encourage further violence and undermine Nigeria’s credibility abroad.
