Christy Ucheibe Departs Benfica After Six Trophy-Laden Years

Super Falcons midfielder Christy Ucheibe has left Portuguese champions Benfica after her contract expired, according to media reports. Since joining from Swedish side Assi IF in 2020, the 25-year-old made 179 appearances for the Eagles and scored 11 goals across all competitions. During her six-year spell in Lisbon, Ucheibe helped Benfica lift six Liga BPI titles, two Portuguese Cups, five League Cups and two Super Cups. She will now turn her attention to the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco next month before deciding on her next club. The Super Falcons start in Group C alongside Malawi, Zambia and Egypt.

She spent six trophy-laden years at Benfica with 179 appearances and eleven goals, a consistency that any club would envy.

I'm not convinced her departure is a huge loss; eleven goals across 179 appearances feels fairly modest.

A move to a league that values her midfield consistency could help her showcase strengths and boost career momentum.
