Relocating With a Family? Why ₦30 Million Is Not Enough Without the Right Pathway

Moving abroad with a spouse and children is not the same as following a single person’s relocation plan. For many Nigerian families, the cost of proof of funds, visa fees, credential assessments, travel and initial settlement can easily consume ₦20 million to ₦35 million or more. Canada’s Express Entry route has high proof-of-funds requirements for families, while employer-led options such as the Atlantic Immigration Program may require less cash but depend on securing an eligible job offer. The UK, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Portugal, France, Sweden and the Netherlands also have different rules on salaries, maintenance funds, qualification recognition and whether a spouse can work. I believe the biggest mistake is choosing a country because a friend succeeded there. Your age, occupation, qualifications, work experience, family size and available capital determine which route is realistic. A worker visa may not automatically mean your spouse can work or that your children can join you under the same conditions. Before spending money on agents, evaluations or visa applications, compare your exact professional profile with each country’s requirements. ₦30 million is not the real problem. Choosing a pathway that does not fit your family can be far more expensive.
