Woman Explains Why She Stopped Identifying as a Feminist

Woman Explains Why She Stopped Identifying as a Feminist — 1 of 3
1 / 3

A woman says she has stopped identifying as a feminist after reflecting on the support she has received from men in her life. She said anger towards her biological father, who failed to show up when she was seriously ill as a teenager, shaped her earlier views. She recalled that male relatives, a school principal, a doctor and others helped her receive treatment for ruptured appendicitis and complete her WAEC. She said these experiences reminded her that one person's actions should not define an entire gender. She urged women and men to focus on confronting harmful behaviour, corruption, insecurity and hunger rather than treating one another as enemies. Her view that men and women have different strengths, and that men should lead, has sparked debate online.
