Woman Seeks Divorce After Alleged Beating and Eviction by Husband
Dotun has filed for divorce from her husband, Waheed, at a customary court in Ibadan, citing neglect and violence. She says she alone fed and clothed the family and paid their children’s school fees. Dotun testified that Waheed refused to act as the family’s breadwinner. She says he frequently assaulted her after disagreements and, late last year, beat her and threw her belongings out of their home. She is asking the court to dissolve the marriage, grant her custody of their five children, and order Waheed to contribute to their feeding, education, and healthcare. She also seeks a restraining order to prevent further threats or interference. After hearing the plaintiff’s testimony, the court led by Mrs. S.M. Akintayo adjourned the case for the defense.
