Senegalese-American singer Akon has reignited debate over how revenue flows in the music industry. In a recent interview with a hip-hop media outlet, he argued that executives earn far more from music than the artists themselves. He said artists may become famous but are usually the last to get paid. “If you want to be broke and famous, be the artist,” he warned.
