LIRS Extends Individual Tax Filing Deadline to April 14, 2026

LIRS Extends Individual Tax Filing Deadline to April 14, 2026

The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service has announced a two-week extension for filing individual annual tax returns. The new deadline moves from April 1 to April 14, 2026. Dr. Ayodele Subair, Executive Chairman of LIRS, emphasized that the statutory deadline remains March 31 each year. However, the extension aims to give taxpayers more time to prepare accurate returns. Electronic filing via the LIRS eTax platform is now mandatory, as manual submissions have been phased out. Taxpayers must use their correct Tax Identification Number when filing. For assistance, individuals can visit any LIRS office or reach out through the Service’s official social media channels, email, or customer care hotline.

Do you believe this extra fortnight actually gives enough breathing space for tax prep?

I suppose this extra time could help tidy up docs, but won't it just encourage last-minute rush again?

It's interesting they moved the deadline but still maintain a March 31 statutory cutoff. Feels like mixed messaging on compliance priorities.

I appreciate the extra time, but does shifting the date actually help taxpayers who already struggle with gathering documents on time?

You could set a midpoint reminder in early April to collect receipts and verify entries before the April 14 deadline to avoid last-minute issues.
