Russell Westbrook Retires After 18 NBA Seasons as Triple-Double Record Holder

Russell Westbrook has announced his retirement from the NBA after an 18-season career that included stints with seven teams. The 37-year-old shared a farewell video reflecting on his journey, saying the moment had finally come to an end. Drafted fourth overall in 2008, Westbrook became an Oklahoma City Thunder icon during his 11 seasons with the franchise. He led the team to the 2012 NBA Finals, made nine playoff appearances and stayed with the Thunder after Kevin Durant’s departure in 2016. Westbrook won the 2017 NBA MVP after averaging a triple-double for the season, including 31.6 points, 10.7 rebounds and 10.4 assists per game. A nine-time All-Star, he retires as the NBA’s all-time leader in triple-doubles, with 209, and among the league’s leading scorers and assist providers.
