Carragher: Barcola Is Not Liverpool’s Replacement for Mohamed Salah

Carragher: Barcola Is Not Liverpool’s Replacement for Mohamed Salah — 1 of 2
1 / 2

Jamie Carragher has urged Liverpool to prioritise a natural right winger rather than view PSG forward Bradley Barcola as Mohamed Salah’s replacement. Reports suggest Liverpool are considering a major bid for Barcola, who is valued at about €150 million. Carragher rates the French international highly but argues that he is primarily a left winger, where Liverpool already have several options. The former Liverpool defender said the club’s most urgent transfer need is to fill the right-sided role left by Salah. He added that Barcola could still be a strong signing if Liverpool also recruit a specialist right winger and trim their crowded left-side options.

Do fans see Barcola as a Salah replacement, or a different kind of signing entirely?

I agree, it sounds more like a separate signing than a direct one-for-one replacement.

Carragher's emphasis on a natural right winger makes the proposed comparison with Salah look premature.

A player need not copy Salah exactly to improve Liverpool's attack, though the price raises expectations.

Liverpool should first define the role they need, then judge whether Barcola actually fits it.
