UNIZIK Professor Says Good Governance Is Key to Ending Insecurity in Nigeria
A professor of Comparative Politics, Peace and Security Governance at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has argued that lasting peace in Nigeria depends on good governance rather than force alone. Delivering the university’s 128th inaugural lecture, he said weak institutions, poor public services and governance failures can fuel conflict and insecurity. He urged government to strengthen inclusive institutions and address the root causes of intergroup tensions. He called for a whole-of-society approach involving government, religious leaders, traditional rulers and citizens. According to him, Nigeria can only reduce insecurity when every part of the country is properly governed and residents have access to basic services. The event also featured the presentation of the university’s Distinguished Professor Medal of Honour to the inaugural lecturer.
