When Daddy Hezekiah Defeated the Dark Deities of Umulowe
In my hometown of Umulowe, Umugara Nkwerre, deities like Okwarafor and Isinwajohia ohia ruled with fear. My grandfather, Tashi Obiajunwa, scoffed at their power—and paid for it with his life deep in the bush. Then Daddy Hezekiah returned from Zambia. He stood against Okwarafor when it tried to strike my father, Nze Obadiah Onukogu. His prayers drove the spirits away. He cleared the Isinwajohia forest and planted corn. By eating the first harvest himself, he proved the gods had no hold over us. His faith broke our village’s bondage and lit a path for young people like me. Born into darkness, we now walk in freedom because Daddy Hezekiah brought the light.
