Similarities Between Sharia and Mosaic Law
Sharia and the Mosaic Law share some religious rules, including restrictions on pork and blood consumption. Both traditions also set guidelines for which animals may be eaten and how meat should be prepared. Islam prohibits riba, or interest on loans, while Mosaic law contains limits on charging interest within the community. Both traditions also require giving to support religious duties and people in need, through zakat in Islam and tithes in ancient Israelite practice. However, the two legal and religious systems are distinct and should be understood within their own historical and faith contexts.
