INEC Commissioner Verifies Wike’s Abuja Land Allocation, Denies $50,000 Bribe Claim

A senior INEC official has confirmed that Minister of FCT Nyesom Wike allocated plots of land in Abuja to senior commissioners and directors. He called the allegation that each received a $50,000 bribe a “barefaced lie.” The official said applications were submitted and fees paid under former INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu. Some beneficiaries have received Certificates of Occupancy, while others—including the supervising commissioner—are still waiting. He added that the plots lie in a new layout without infrastructure and disputed the reported value. He also noted that land allocation to retiring senior public officers is a long-standing practice. Requests for comment from the FCT minister’s aide and the INEC chairman’s press secretary went unanswered.

How realistic is it that the FCT minister's land allocations followed all the right steps without any undue influence?

Could you clarify which specific step in the allocation process you're most concerned about?

That seems unlikely given past controversies, so I'd want evidence showing complete transparency throughout the process.

It's interesting the commissioner calls the bribery allegations a "barefaced lie" yet so little evidence is shared to back it.

I no fit agree say denying bribe claim means every land allocation na proper channels.

A clear public record of all application fees and approvals could help restore trust in the allocation process.
