How Biomass Fuel Pellets Are Made: From Farm Waste to Clean-Burning Fuel
Fuel pellets are compact cylinders made from materials such as sawdust, wood chips, rice husk, straw and other agricultural residues. Producing durable pellets requires more than a pellet press. The raw material must first be dried to the right moisture level and ground into uniform particles. The material is then compressed through a pellet mill. Heat and pressure activate natural lignin in the biomass, helping the particles bind without chemical additives. The fresh pellets must be cooled carefully, screened to remove broken pieces and fines, then bagged or stored properly. A reliable pellet operation depends on matching every stage of the line: drying, grinding, pressing, cooling and screening. If the feedstock is too wet, too dry or unevenly processed, even a good pellet press will produce weak pellets or operate below capacity.
