Across Nigeria, churches fill every Sunday. Some are grand buildings of glass and tile, while others remain unfinished. Yet worshippers gather with the same intensity, carrying prayers shaped by another difficult week. Inside, voices rise in urgent declarations against poverty, illness and unseen enemies. Many prayers are tied to a longing for sudden financial breakthrough, with wealth seen as an escape from hardship and uncertainty. When the offering basket comes around, people give from what little they have, trusting that sacrifice will bring abundance. Afterwards, many return to homes without power, unpaid bills and limited job opportunities. Still, hope survives. It is folded away and carried back to church the following Sunday.
