UI Ranks First in Nigeria as UNILAG Places Second in July 2026 Webometrics Ranking

The University of Ibadan (UI) has emerged as Nigeria’s highest-ranked university in the July 2026 Webometrics Ranking of World Universities. UI placed 1,291st globally, followed by the University of Lagos (UNILAG) at 1,355th. The University of Nigeria ranked third in Nigeria and 1,397th worldwide, while Covenant University came fourth nationally at 1,522nd. Landmark University, the University of Ilorin, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ahmadu Bello University and the University of Port Harcourt also featured in Nigeria’s top 10. Webometrics assessed 32,148 universities and higher institutions worldwide. Its twice-yearly ranking considers web visibility, access to scholarly resources and research excellence. Harvard University retained the global top spot, ahead of Stanford University. Although UI and UNILAG led Nigerian institutions, Nigeria’s highest-ranked university remained outside the world’s top 1,000 in this edition.
