Liberian-Born Miatta Fahnbulleh Makes History as UK Energy Secretary: How Would Africa React?

We feel a deep pride whenever a Black African immigrant rises to a top role in Europe. This legacy stretches from the 1950s to today. But this milestone raises a question: how would we respond if an African president appointed a European immigrant to a cabinet post? Would we accept a national team made up largely of Europeans, as France fields mostly Black players? Imagine Nigeria or Senegal naming a white ambassador to the US now. How would the public react? Remember, Liberia’s constitution still bars white men from citizenship under Article 27(b).
