Akekoromowei Named Player of the Match as Falconets Beat England 3-0

Janet Akekoromowei earned the Player of the Match award as Nigeria’s Falconets defeated England 3-0 in the Round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. Tosin Rafiu gave Nigeria an early lead in the eighth minute, racing down the left wing, cutting inside and firing past England goalkeeper Katie Cox. Akekoromowei doubled the lead two minutes into the second half with a left-footed volley for her second goal of the tournament. Substitute Mary Mamudu added a third goal 17 minutes from time. The Falconets will face either Poland or Colombia in the quarter-finals in Lodz on Sunday.
