ASERC and FirstPower Lead Stakeholder Dialogue to Shape Anambra’s Electricity Market
The Anambra State Electricity Regulatory Commission (ASERC) convened a public consultation in Awka with FirstPower and local electricity consumers. The meeting focused on draft Electricity Regulations 2026 and addressed supply reliability, billing practices, energy losses and ongoing sector reforms. In his opening remarks, ASERC Chairman Prof. Frank Okafor emphasised transparency and inclusiveness in finalising the regulations under the Anambra State Electricity Law, 2025. He urged stronger cooperation between distributors and consumers to ensure clear operational standards, fair tariffs and reliable service. ASERC Executive Commissioner Engr. Nosike Emmanuel reviewed the draft Consumer Protection Regulations, highlighting metering standards, billing accuracy, licensing requirements and dispute resolution timelines. He reminded customers of their rights and the approved procedures for submitting complaints. FirstPower MD Engr. Okechukwu Okafor acknowledged service challenges and outlined measures to reduce estimated billing through a new meter-production facility in Onitsha. He also revealed plans for embedded power generation and confirmed that staff facing billing-irregularity charges reflect the company’s commitment to integrity.
