House of Reps Defections Intensify: PDP Loses Five Members, APC Two
A fresh wave of defections swept the House of Representatives after the Easter break as lawmakers realign ahead of the 2027 elections. Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu read out letters from seven members leaving their parties. The PDP lost five representatives, including two from Kebbi and one from Niger State. The APC saw two members depart for the PDP and ADC. Lagos lawmaker Thaddeus Attah cited a leadership crisis in the Labour Party when he moved to the ADC. In Osun State, two PDP members joined the Accord Party. Analysts say such shifts reflect the fluid nature of party loyalty in Nigeria. With less than two years to the general elections, legislators are recalibrating for re-election, party structures, and alliances. The House adjourned to Wednesday to honour Kano lawmaker Hassan Danjuma, who died on April 10 at 66.
