Over 100 Ogun Students Hospitalised as Fresh Gas Emission Shuts Schools in Ijebu Communities
More than 100 secondary school students were reportedly taken to hospitals after an unusual gas emission caused breathing difficulties and fainting in parts of Ogun State. Schools in Ijebu-Ode, Ijebu-Igbo and Ago-Iwoye were affected. Some schools reportedly closed early as parents arrived to take their children home. The Ogun State Government says it is investigating the incident, the fourth reported gas-emission occurrence in the Ijebu area since April 2026. Earlier investigations detected methane and pointed to possible underground geological activity, but the precise source of the latest emission has not been confirmed.
