Turkey Accuses Israel of Casting It as New Enemy Amid Gaza Conflict

Turkey’s foreign minister says Israel is portraying Turkey as its latest foe. Hakan Fidan accused Israel of needing an enemy and shifting its focus to Ankara in a recent state media interview. Relations have worsened since the Gaza war began after the October 7 Hamas attack. Over the weekend, President Erdoğan warned the US president that certain moves could derail a proposed ceasefire involving Washington, Israel and Iran. Israel’s prime minister insists his country will continue to stand against Iran and its allies. Fidan added that some Israeli opposition figures also support treating Turkey as an enemy, calling it a troubling shift in Israel’s foreign policy.
