Should Theology Replace Religion in School Curricula?

Traditional religion often portrays God in unsavory ways and relies on fixed scriptures. Teaching these interpretations to children in schools can hinder human advancement. Religion can be treated like a personal choice similar to sexuality, allowing private practice. Homosexuality, for example, does not damage God’s character the way many religious teachings do. A theology-based curriculum would explore the concept of God in culturally sensitive terms. It would avoid punitive or vile portrayals and emphasize that God supports people’s best efforts.
