Idris Elba Knighted by King Charles III for Youth Empowerment
Sir Idris Elba received a knighthood from King Charles III at Windsor Castle on 2 June 2026. The actor and musician was honoured for his dedicated work in youth empowerment, education and anti-knife crime advocacy across the UK. His investiture follows his listing in the King’s New Year honours. Elba’s connection to The King’s Trust dates back to his early career. A grant from the Prince’s Trust helped him join the National Youth Music Theatre and set him on his path. He later became a goodwill ambassador before co-founding the Elba Hope Foundation with his wife, Sabrina. The foundation has raised millions to fight rural poverty, support COVID-19 relief and deliver debt relief in Somalia. After his investiture, Elba shared a photo with his knighthood medal and his wife on the castle grounds, saying simply: “We are thankful. The work continues.”
