NECA Warns: Tinubu’s Reforms Haven’t Eased Business Struggles
At the fifth Nigeria Employers’ Summit in Abuja, NECA delegates said federal reforms have yet to offer real relief to businesses facing high energy costs, inflation, unstable exchange rates and multiple taxation. Represented by Richard Ayibiowu, NECA President Ifeanyi Okoye reviewed recent policy changes—fuel subsidy removal, forex and tax reforms and ease-of-doing-business initiatives—and urged stakeholders to assess their effects on enterprise growth, employment and investment. He noted that Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises have shouldered much of the adjustment burden. NECA and the ILO unveiled an ESG Implementation Guide to help MSMEs meet sustainability standards, improve access to finance and integrate into global value chains. NECA will also rebrand the summit as the International Employers’ Summit from 2027 to broaden discussions on investment, labour migration and economic transformation.
