Under the reported changes, players who are made to train separately without justification could claim just sporting cause, potentially seek to terminate their contracts and pursue compensation. This would make it riskier for clubs to keep unwanted players away from the main group. Chelsea are reported to have about 41 senior players, while head coach Xabi Alonso is said to prefer a squad closer to 25.
