To Bachelors Over 30: Do Not Let Marriage Pressure Rush You

I once thought pressure to marry was mainly something women faced in conservative African homes. With maturity and exposure, I have realised that many men, especially those in their 30s, face it too. A 37-year-old friend recently told me that Nigeria’s economic situation has delayed his plans to settle down, despite pressure from family and friends. Some neighbours have even begun making unfair assumptions about his sexuality because he is neither married nor known as a womaniser. The pressure was clearly affecting his mental wellbeing. To every bachelor over 30: do not let society rush you into marriage before you are ready. Marriage requires emotional maturity, social support and a reasonable level of financial stability. You do not need to be a millionaire, but you should be able to support a home without entering it solely hoping that your partner will carry the burden. Build yourself, grow your income and make your decision at your own pace. Marriage is too important to enter because of gossip, family pressure or fear of being judged.
