Presidency Fires Back at Obi: Was Anambra Secure Under Your Watch?
The presidency has responded sharply to Peter Obi’s criticism of the federal government’s security record. The President’s Information Adviser, Bayo Onanuga, challenged Obi’s track record in Anambra State and accused his supporters of rewriting history. Onanuga cited a clip of former Governor Willie Obiano claiming Anambra’s security architecture collapsed before he took office. Obiano noted that 69 kidnappings occurred under Obi and that many indigenes avoided returning home. Obi has condemned President Tinubu’s handling of national security, pointing to a rise in mass school kidnappings and calling the federal approval to recruit forest guards in Oyo State a reactive measure. He questioned whether other states would receive similar support or if this was mere impulse.
